Movie Review: Confessions of a Shopaholic

My friends and I go crazy over these books. Authoress Sophie Kinsella has written 5 books for her character, Becky Bloomwood, and I've loved every one (except, perhaps, Shopaholic & Sister... but that's another post).

You can imagine my joy when, last January, I discovered that Isla Fisher was going to play Becky in the first Shopaholic movie!! Take a look...

This past weekend the movie was FINALLY released, and my friends and I rushed off to see it! Unfortunately... ugh.

Wait, it deserves capitals. UGH.

Isla Fisher, as much as I loved her in Wedding Crashers, waaaay overplayed Becky's quirks and flightiness. She spent the entire movie shrieking, with arms flailing, scarf waving, shopping bags flying, in a manic state of confusion. While that is part of Becky's appeal, I certainly didn't get the impression from the book that she was flailing 100 PERCENT of the time!

That's pretty much the only issue I had with this movie. I admit that it was colorful (literally... there was a lot of color in this movie, and I liked that), sweet, funny at times, and overall a nice romantic comedy. But oh... Isla... why the overacting???

  1. I didn't think it was THAT BAD. I was entertained. You totally hated it, but my review is: I was entertained.
