Longaberger Baskets

As part of my week off of work, I've been spending some time putting away the last of our wedding gifts. The parents of one of our groomsmen gave us two Longaberger baskets. If you haven't heard of Longaberger, it is an Ohio-based company that sells very high-quality baskets. I'm not kidding... check out the prices on these babies if you want to know just how high-quality they really are.

Since I wasn't unfamiliar with Longaberger (they're quite a big deal in Wisconsin, where I'm from), I knew that these were special and I would need to treat them well. But, well, I'm just not sure what to do with them!

The first one is the Medium Oval Gathering Basket. It's obviously meant to be used for food, but why do I feel like it will only be appropriate to bring it to a picnic? Hmmm....

The second one, the Library Basket, is obviously meant to hold books or magazines. But I have issues with keeping things on the floor, as I have hardwood floors and things that are kept on the floor collect dust like you would not believe.

So... whaddaya think? Any ideas for some brilliant ways in which I can use/display/honor these lovely baskets? I'd love some ideas from my domestically-inclined readers!

  1. I don't know what to tell you...but the Longaberger headquarters in Ohio is shaped like a giant basket. That is all.

  2. is the book one too deep for a plant? i realize it's a little narrow- but maybe a couple tall pots? or towels for your bathroom- all rolled up?

for the other one... can you put a loaf of bread in it on top of your fridge? or like a catch-all basket for mail?.. on a coffee table for magazines?

(i stumbled on your blog by looking at hyper homemaker's farewell note!- i saw the longabergers and couldn't help myself- i am originally from iowa and my mom's friend is a seller- needless to say i got plenty as gifts for the wedding- i have a hard time 'thinking outside the box' on these things too- though they really are so versatile- like any basket!)

  3. Hi Makenzie!

I LOVE the hyper homemaker blog!! Such a bummer that we'll have to do without her for a few weeks. :( Well, I love my new baskets and I'm sure I'll find a great use for them at some point! Thanks for the ideas!
